Cindy Capretz, LCSW

Cindy has been honing her expertise as a clinician for almost 20 years, working with adolescents, teens, women’s issues, seniors, couples, and families.  Cindy brings a rich professional background to her work in the clinical field.  After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Cindy worked in the corporate world at Boeing, Apple Computer, and Health Care Industries.  Cindy earned a dual Master’s Degree in Social Work and Public Administration at the University of Southern California, specializing in public policy and community development.  During her tenure there, Cindy worked at the Executive Office of the President of the United States in the Office of Management and Budget for the Department of Defense. In addition to her extensive volunteer work, she is also the President and Co-Founder of The V.A.I.L. School, which later partnered with Early College High School and became a charter school within the Newport-Mesa School District.  Moreover, Cindy has received certifications in Conflict and Alternative Dispute Resolution by the University of California, Irvine as well as Integrated Primary Care Management by the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

As a California State licensed clinical social worker, Cindy specializes in geriatrics.  Her patients present a variety of issues, from common disorders such as depression, anxiety, adjustment disorder, bi-polar, and trauma to more complex issues like PTSD, phobias, grief, end-of-life issues, palliative care, and care management.  Cindy approaches the individual from a holistic framework, considering one's personal environment as she helps them create meaning out of significant events and life experiences.  Under the values of acceptance, understanding, and compassion, Cindy cultivates a sense of hope in each individual, guiding them toward their best life as they conceive it.

Cindy’s qualities of warmth, honesty, authenticity, and integrity define who she is and, thereby, what she brings to the therapeutic relationship.  Cindy’s respect for and appreciation of the uniqueness of each individual is a refreshing approach to life. Her capacity to acknowledge, accept, and even laugh at her own shortcomings enables her to relate to others with understanding and acceptance. And it is her deep faith, spirituality, and belief in each person’s capacity for growth and transformation for the greater good of humankind that guides not only her work, but her personal life.

A native of Orange County, California, Cindy is the proud mother of a 25-year-old son, 21-year-old daughter, and stepmother to two adult children. Cindy and her husband, an attorney in Newport Beach, live in Newport Beach, California.
